My Ticklish Toes

a-feet.jpg

My ticklish toes were so ticklish that I only had to walk upstairs and I ended up giggling. My ticklish toes tickled so much that each step smiled. So ticklish that eventually my socks, too, started to titter. My ticklish toes tickled so much that when I put my shoes on, they started to laugh at my trousers. With a HA ! HA ! here and a HA ! HA ! there, giggling slippers everywhere ! My ticklish toes were so ticklish that they even got the jokes about chickens crossing the road so my shoes started to cross the road, too. So ticklish that when my ticklish feet started to wiggle, the socks I was wearing wiggled, too. My ticklish toes wiggled so my belly wiggled, too, with an enormous belly laugh. My shoulders started to shake, my knees started to wobble and even my ears seemed to find something funny. When my ticklish toes tickled, my shoe laces tickled, too. The souls of my shoes also showed their warm rosy cheeks and I was no longer feeling blue.

Give ‘Em A Big Hand

hand.jpg

The biggest hand was so big that when it waved it could be seen on the other side of the globe. So big that when it clapped, echoes could be heard all over the town. The biggest hand only had to point a finger and it touched the tops of skyscrapers. The biggest hand wore the biggest glove that was so big that five people could fit inside each finger. The biggest hand was so big that when it opened the door - the door fell off it’s hinges. So big that the ring on it’s finger was actually a car wheel. When the biggest hand played musical instruments, it hit the drum so hard that it ended up with a big hole in the middle. So big that when the biggest hand played the saxaphone, the buttons always came undone … and the tune it played was so loud that it could be heard all over the globe. When the biggest hand fastened up trousers, inevitably, the zip broke. So big that when it buttoned up a shirt, the buttons popped off, one by one.

You Can’t Chew With Somebody Else’s Teeth

shark1.jpgteeth.jpg

There is a Yiddish saying that you can’t chew with somebody else’s teeth … so there’s no point in swapping your’s with a horse and see how big a bite you can take - you may even end up neighing and eating hay all day long ! The best set of teeth, of course would be a crocodile’s - though chewing tiny piranha for breakfast, dinner and tea can leave you with jaw ache, of course. A size twelve set of dentures would be just about big enough to fit a hippopotamus’s jaws (but watch out for the teeth marks !). You may try nibbling a nut with another squirrel’s gnashers or even a carrot with a rabbit’s teeth. A snake’s forked tongue may be quite poisonous … or a mouse’s teeth would leave you with tiny teeth marks in your cheese. You could chew the cud of the grassy meadows, with the other lambs and sheep … but there may be one or two daisies in between. A pair of pig’s teeth would leave you oinking all day … and a dog’s fangs would make you bark. If you wanted teeth like a frog, you would say “RIBBET ! RIBBET !” while swimming in a pond. Perhaps even chewing with the teeth of a giraffe might stretch your neck a bit longer, or sucking a coconut with a monkey’s teeth would leave you chattering all day long. I would hate to have to exchange my perfect fangs for a gobful of golly gum drops and gewey gobstoppers - it surely would keep the tooth fairy busy and perhaps I would find my teeth in a glass by the door or even find them fallen on the floor. But you can’t chew with somebody else’s teeth !

The Smelliest Nose

nose.jpg

The smelliest nose was so smelly that it could smell everything from a thousand miles away. The sweetest smells under the smelliest nose came from the kitchen … where there were always nice things cooking. Creamy custard, strawberry tarts and lots of cream scones. The smelliest nose smelt them all. A sniff here, a sniff there. Tasty smellies everywhere. The smelliest nose smelt the tastiest foods in the supermarket … and they were always so tasty that the smelliest nose could smell them from one hundred miles away. The smelliest nose was so excellently smelly that the minute that it sniffed in the garden, it smelt roses and chrysanthemums, daffodils and daisies … buttercups and bluebells. At dinnertime, the smelliest nose could smell tomato ketchup … chips … and salt and vinegar. By mid - afternoon, the smelliest nose smelt grass growing and apples on the trees. Oranges and lemons and honey made by honey bees. The smelliest nose smelt perfume and lots of lovely things to smell - the smelliest nose smelt things that other noses just can’t tell. The smelliest nose was so smelly that it smelt the car and the train … and once it smelt the bicycle and then smelt the skateboard again.

Put Up Your Hands (quick classroom activity)

hands-up.jpg

Put up your hands - put your feet up, do but make sure your trousers don’t tumble down too.
Reach out your arm - then stretch a leg more, but make sure your socks don’t wobble to the floor.
Bend over backwards and then touch the ground, but make sure your skirt doesn’t twist round and around.
Jump up and down - then land on one spot - but make sure you don’t get sweaty and hot.
Hop on one leg, then hop on the other, perhaps uyou could even hop with your brother.
Take two steps forward, then three steps back - but make sure your steps get you back on the track.
Blink three times, then close your eyes tight, but make sure your glasses don’t fly off like a kite
Take a left turn, then turn to the right - but make sure you don’t go through a red light,
This is my dance, it’s easy to do - especially if with friends and a crew, too.

hands-up.jpg You’ve Got To Hand It To Them !

Pete’s Feet (poem)

a-feet.jpg

Pete’s feet are quite a treat - they’re small, smelly but quite petite. He keeps his socks in a pile that’s neat - but soon they’re smelly and not so sweet. He twiddles his toes and his shoes make a beat - he puts them together and they make a fleet. He ties up his laces - his feet are complete. Pete’s feet are quite a treat - fold them in half and they make a pleat. When Pete puts his feet up - they’re a bed with a sheet. He sits in the garden with birds that go tweet. Pete’s feet are quite a treat.
