1. If it takes 15 minutes to prepare a cake and 10 minutes to cook it, express this as a ratio. What fraction of the preparation time is spent cooking ?

2. Work out the area of a pie that measures 25 cm across it’s diameter.

3. The pie pastry is 3 cm thick – with a filling that is 8 cm thick – how thick is the entire pie ?

4. There are 120 pies in a pie – shop – cherry, apple and raspberry in a ratio of 2 : 4 : 6. How many of each type of pie is there ?

5. A meringue pie rises to three times it’s original size – if it begins 4 cm thick, how thick does it become ?

6. The oven is originally put on a temperature of 150 degrees, but the cake doesn’t cook, so it is increased by 50 degrees. What percentage increase is this ?

7. A pied wagtail can fly at a speed of 2 km every hour – how long does it take him to reach the top of a hill, 25 km away ?

8. A pie is cut into four slices and one slice gets eaten – what decimal remains ?

9. A pie is cut into eight slices and two slices get eaten, what fraction of the whole pie remains ?

10. If one pie requires 3 eggs, how many eggs are needed for 30 pies ?

2. 2 x 3.14 x 12.5 = 78.5 square cm
3. (3 x 2) + 8 = 14 cm
4. One part = 120 / 12 = 10 therefore 20 : 40 : 60
5. 3 x 4 = 12 cm
6. 150 / 50 = 3 therefore one third.
7. 25 / 2 = 12.5 hours
