Write a mathematical equation to show your working out when answering the following questions.

1/ Write a formula to work out the surface area of an Egyptian pyramid that is 750 m wide and 1000 m high.

2/ If the River Nile flows at a rate of 25 km/hour, how long would it take a pebble to flow 880 km downstream to Aswan ? Give your answer in hours and minutes.

3/ If a camel can carry 8.3 kg of goods, how many trips would it have to make to carry 830 kg ?

4/ Work out the difference in temperature between 19 degrees Celcius at the Cape of Good Horn and 89 degrees Celcius in the Sahara desert.

5/ If an African elephant stamps his feet 12 times in one hour, how many times does he stamp his feet in 3 weeks ?

6/ If a mosquito flies 67 km North, 27 km East, 52 km West and 79 km South, how far does he fly in total ?

7/ If a snake trvels at a speed of 2.5 km / hour, how long does it take to travel through 300 km of jungle ?

8/ If the trees in two square metres of jungle can produce 8 coconuts, how many coconuts does three jungles measuring 800 x 900 m produce ?

Answers :
1/ no. of sides x width x height / 2 = 4 (750 x 1000 / 2) = 1 500 000 square m
2/ 880 / 25 = 35.2 hours = 35 hours and 12 mins
3/ 830 / 8.3 = 100 trips
4/ 89 – 19 = 70 degrees
5/ hours per week x stamping rate = (24 x 7 = 168) x 12 = 2016
6/ 67 + 27 + 52 + 79 = 225 km
7/ 300 / 2.5 = 120 hours
8/ (800 x 900 = 720 000) x 3 / 2 x 8 = 8 640 000 coconuts
