Salami In The Saloon

hotdog1.jpg

Wild Bill met In’jun Joe in the saloon one day for dinner … In’jun Joe remarked that Wild Bill was getting thinner … He suggested that maybe it would be a good idea … If they both enjoyed a hot dog … and a bottle of beer. Wild Bill said that he’d prefer to take supper later, But In’jun Joe regardless, went ahead and called the waiter. Within ten minutes a whole plate arrived, Along with ketchup, a fork and a knife. Wild Bill, of course, was soon tucking in, He ordered extra onions … and a double gin. Soon they both were as drunk as a skunk, And Wild Bill started to dance the funk. Very soon a fight broke out … And In’jun Joe on his nose got a clout. The matter was over a rather sqaushed hat, That In’jun Joe flattened when he sat.

Write a mathematical equation to show your working out to the following mathematical problems.

hotdog1.jpg 4. Wild Bill ate his dinner twice as quick as In’jun Joe – if In’jun Joe took 20 minutes, how long did Wild Bill take ?

hotdog1.jpg 5. In’jun Joe drank 0.8 of his beer. If there was 200 mls in the bottle – how much was left ?

hotdog1.jpg 6. Wild Bill noticed in the saloon that one third of the 120 customers were stood at the bar. How many is this ?

hotdog1.jpg 7. In’jun Joe and Wild Bill played 50 games of snooker. In’jun Joe won 80% of the games – how many did Wild Bill win ?

hotdog1.jpg 8. Wild Bill then ordered two ice – cream desserts with 45 chocolate sweets on top. If it took 5 minutes to eat one eighth of them, how long did it take to eat them all ?

hotdog1.jpg 9. There were 12 hotdogs on the plate – Wild Bill put mustard on one quarter and ketchup on the rest. Express this as a ratio.

hotdog1.jpg 10. In’jun Joe cut the hotdogs into two – how many halves were there then ?

hotdog1.jpg 11. Wild Bill put his Stetson hat on the hatstand with 60 others (including In’jun Joe’s headdress !)… In the bar brawl, one fifth of the hats fell off … how many did that leave ?

hotdog1.jpg 12. In’jun Joe ate 40% of the 300 peanuts in a bowl on the table – how many did that leave ? A

Answers :

1. 150 / 15 = 10

2. 150 – 120 = 30

3. 20 – (2 x 1.5) – (2 x 0.75) – (2 x 0.5) x (2 x 0.3) =

4. 20 / 2 = 10 minutes

5. 200 – (200 / 10 x 8 = 160) = 40 mls

6. 120 / 3 = 40

7. 50 – (50 / 100 x 80 = 40) = 10

8. 45 / 8 = 5 x 5 = 25 minutes

9. mustard : ketchup = 3 : 9 = 1 : 3

10. 12 x 2 = 24

11. 60 – (60 / 5 = 12) = 48

12. 300 – (300 / 100 x 40 = 120) = 180
