Forty Winks, Flying 44 Light Years In The Air

rocket-1.jpg

Bionic Nick was tired one flight, the meteorites had kept him awake all night. He tossed and turned, but still couldn’t get to sleep. No wonder, the bed rattled every time they went over a crater in the moon jeep. A hundred thousand light years in the air, Bionic Nick had an alien’s nightmare. Atomic Mick awoke Bionic every time he crashed the moon jeep – no wonder he couldn’t fall fast asleep ! As the moon buggy zoomed around Earth, Bionic Nick clung on for all he was worth. All he wanted was forty winks, not to but the twinkling stars meant he couldn’t think ! (and the gravity – less mattress was on the blink !). The moon buggy veered right – Bionic Nick fell out of bed and crashed his head on the light. The alarm clock’s ticking kept him awake all night – the moon continued and flew right out of sight. Lightening flashed and thunder crashed … he awoke with a start everytime the space buggy bashed. As Bionic Nick began to loudly snore, the moon buggy shook so much, it rattled the door. Before long, Bionic Nick had rolled onto the floor. Hardly surprising that Bionic Nick was so grumpy – he didn’t get a wink of sleep because the mattress was rather lumpy !

Life Begins At Forty

The guage reading “40” on the moon buggy wasn’t working properly, so Bionic Nick and Atomic Mick couldn’t tell how fast to go. Can you help ? Fill in the gaps in the mathematical equations, then match up the sums with the same answers.

__ + 40 = 80

40 + __ – 79 = 1

40 x __ = 80

40 / __ = 4

49 x 5 – __ = 360

__ + 4 = 44

40 + __ – 4 = 80

__ x 40 = 360

__ + 14 = 54

__ x 3 = 120

__ x 11 = 440

40 x __ = 1 600

40 + __ + 4 = 84

__ + 10 + 4 = 54

40 / __ x 40 = 40

40 x 2 + __ = 120

__ x (100 – 60) = 1600

__ – 19 = 21
