Basketball Player

1. The basketball player scored 1 : 2 baskets from his 330 shots at the net. How many did he succeed in scoring ?

2. The basketball player ran at a speed of 2 km / hour, how long did it take him to run around the basketball pitch ?

3. Work out the surface area of the basketball pitch, if it measured 150 metres long and 50 metres wide.

4. If there were 12 players in each of the two teams, but 16.6 % of the first team was sent off and one – third of the second team was sent off, how many players were left ?

5. The basketball player was 3.5 m smaller than the goal post. If the player was 175 cm tall, how high was the goal post ?

6. The basketball player went to the sports shop and bought – a new pair of trainers for £25.99, a new ball for £5.99, a new pair of socks for £2.99 and a whistle for the Saturday game for £3.99 – how much change did he receive from £100.00 ?

7. Using the formula for calculating the volume of a sphere, work out the volume of the basketball if it had a diameter of 50 cm.

8. The basket was 15 cm bigger that the ball – how wide was it ?

Answers :

1. 110

2. 60 mins / speed / distance = 60 / (2 / (150 + 150 + 50 + 50 = 400 m = 0.4 km) = 5) = 12 mins

3. 150 x 50 = 7, 500 sq metres

4. (12 x 2 = 24) – (12 / 6 = 2) – (12 / 3 = 4) = 18 players

5. 3.5 + 1.75 = 5.25 m

6. 100 – (25.99 + 5.99 + 2.99 + 3.99 = 38.96) = £61.04

7. 2 (50 x 50 = 2, 500 / 3 = 833.33) = 1,666.66 cubic cm

8. 50 + 15 = 65 cm
