The Christmas That Santa Spent In The Police Station

One Christmas, Santa lost his bell … he wasn’t sure where. He remembered that it had been on his sleigh – but perhaps, like him, it had become lost when he lost on his way … He had been circling the North Pole, he seemed to recall, when he heard a ring, as he stopped off by the chimney wall. And that was the last he’d seen or heard of his bell … perhaps he had dropped it dropping off presents as well ?! None of the reindeers had a clue – Santa asked the Christmas fairy, but she didn’t know, too. So, off to the police station, Santa trot, to ask the Constable if he’d seen it or not. And to see if they’d got, a spare bell that he could borrow a lot. The Constable wrote down in his book, all the things that Santa had took. Three teddy bears, two diamond rings, a Christmas tree and a bell on a string. He ticked them off, one by one, checking if they were still on the sleigh or gone. The only thing that wasn’t there, was his bell. Although Santa asked around on the street here and there, no – one seemed to know where ! Mmmm, the Constable pondered – perhaps he’d dropped it making snowmen, he wondered ? Inspector Spectre, who was rather used to puzzling things, suggested that they should listen for rings. When the carol singers came along, they heard a ring, in their Christmas song … which gradually became much more strong (though they did get some of the words wrong !). But that, of course, wasn’t the bell in question … so on they continued with their investigation. When suddenly, the door bell, rang on the police station. Once again, Santa and the Constable looked, but it was the wind, which had left the doorbell stuck (rather than the bell being taken by a crook !). Santa and the Constable couldn’t find the bell at all … it wasn’t in the shed, nor on the garden wall. He’d forgotten completely, where it had been put ! Until, at midnight, Santa came down the chimney pot … then out his pocket fell the bell, in a pile of soot !
