Witch Hazel and the Magic Hazelnut

caolm1du.jpg

Witch Hazel was helping Jack to sweep up the leaves underneath the beanstalk one Autumn. “What a waste of leaves, this is”, she remarked. “And a lot of hard work, too”, replied Jack. Mmm, thought Hazel, casting a magic spell on her brromstick to make it pick up the leaves a little more quick. The broomstick chugged slowly at first, then had a magical sweeping outburst. Before long, the magic brromstick had collected, two hundred acorns, four hundred conkers and a whole load of twigs … it brushedso hard that it almost swept off Witch Hazel’s hat (and also her witch’s wig). Jack came to see what was all the fuss, coughing and spluttering in clouds of beanstalk dust. He noticed on the ground, a hazelnut rolling around. The hazelnut too had picked up some magic from the broomstick and siin started performing magic tricks. “Gadzooks, a magic hazelnut” I wonder what magic it can do … or if it can make the broomstick magical, too.” Jack closed his eyes, and wished for a new pair of boots, he wished so hard, he fell over one of the beanstalk roots. With his eyes shut, he couldn’t see a thing, of course. As Jack went flying through the air, he dropped the hazelnut from his hand. So quickly Witch Hazel magicked a spell to help the hazelnut softly land. The magic hazelnut magicked Jack back up. It magicked a pot of steaming tea and a new, shiny, china cup. Accidentally, the magic hazelnut spilled some magic on the flowers, which started to grow for hours and hours. It even magicked April showers. So from the raincloud above the beanstalk splashed down raindrops with magical powers. No wonder that the beanstalk grew so fast … once it had got a magic hazelnut blast. So magic was the hazelnut, that it magicked the Sun to shine a bit brighter. It even magicked the birds, so that they flew a lot brighter. The witch used the magic hazelnut to wish for a new broom (perhaps one that would take her to the Moon with zoom). Pazazz ! Shazam ! But the spell went skew – wift and soon, there was even a giant mushroom. Within minutes a new broomstick started to appear … leaving her old, tattered broom making all the dead leaves disappear. The witch climbed onto her new broomstick and off she sped. She’d orbited to Mercury before on Pluto, going to bed. By the time Witch Hazel landed back at the beanstalk a week later, she’d brushed up a whole constellation of stars, a planet or two and some meteorites the size of a crater. Some of the moondust was magic as well … when she sprinkled some on the beanstalk, it glistened like the stars in the dell.

Answers :

10 x 2 = 20

20 x 20 = 4000

420 – 20 = 400

20 x 2 = 80

20 / 5 = 4

4 x 5 = 20

300 – 80 = 220

50 – 20 = 30

20 x 3 = 60

20 / 2 = 10

520 + 100 = 620

20 + 60 = 80

200 / 20 = 10

20 x 7 = 140
